Overview

Magashi Camp is a luxurious tented safari camp in Akagera National Park, with enchanting views over Lake Rwanyakazinga, Magashi Camp is a unique and inviting gateway into one of Rwanda's most beautiful national parks. This luxury tented camp offers exclusive access to vast tracts of Africa's best wildlife areas, creating a unique sense of seclusion, comfort, privacy and space, surrounded by some of East Africa’s most beautiful savannah, lakes, swamps and rolling grasslands.

Perched like butterflies on the shores of Lake Rwanyakazinga, Magashi’s eight spacious tented suites welcome you to an intimate wilderness area, surrounded by one of the most serene landscapes imaginable.

The camp’s main area is ideal for whiling away the lazy afternoons between safari activities whether you prefer to relax in the lounge, dining and bar area, or the large viewing deck with its fire pit, or cool off at the pool. The camp’s interiors and architecture have been inspired by traditional Rwandan culture. The pool is the ideal place to cool off after a busy game viewing and birdwatching day, and evenings are best spent on the deck around the fire pit.

Meals at Magashi are designed with sustainability in mind, offering healthy flavourful recipes that tread lightly on the Earth. Our menu heroes Rwanda’s indigenous ingredients, local dishes and fresh produce. Sample the famous ‘Rolex’ breakfast wrap - a signature choice - and a travelling Kugisha dinner, which is served with a collection of traditional stories and songs.

As the region's largest protected wetland, Akagera is the last remaining haven for Rwanda's savannah-adapted species. Facing certain collapse in the 1990s, the park has been transformed thanks to focused conservation efforts and reintroductions. Now home to large herds of plains game, the park also has a healthy lion population. They were reintroduced in 2015 after an absence of two decades. Two years after the lions, black rhinos were also reintroduced, followed by white rhinos in 2020. The only exclusive-use area in Akagera, Magashi also boasts a fair number of leopards.

Witness the abundance of Akagera National Park from Wilderness Magashi.  Home once more to an abundance of apex predators and their prey. Marvel at the lion, white and black rhino, buffalo and elephant roaming its hills and vast savannah. This is the quintessential East African safari adventure and the perfect complement to your gorilla trekking experience in Rwanda.
