Itinerary

Day 1: Journey to the untouched wilderness of Samburu

Welcome to the home of Safari. Our Kenya Wildlife Safari starts early in the morning. Our specialist driver-guide will pick you up at your residency/hotel and embark on a drive through Kenya.

The expected arrival time is just after noon. We shall head to the lodge for check-in and lunch. A little rest and head for an afternoon game drive at Samburu National Reserve. Lying in Kenya's more arid Northern Region, Samburu offers a different wildlife experience to the more familiar destinations in East Africa such as the Maasai Mara and the Serengeti.

Typical sightings include herds of elephants and pride of lions and the Samburu Special Five (Resident wildlife unique to this reserve)

Day 2: Exploring Elephants and Samburu Special Five in Samburu

Spend this day exploring this vast landscape with today's highlight being spotting the elephants and the Samburu Special Five. After an early breakfast, we're off to the reserve, expecting to catch some action as this is a prime time for predators like lions to hunt.

Samburu is a land of elephants and lions but also the long-necked gerenuk and rapier-horned Beisa oryx. Look out for species here not seen further South such as Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich and gerenuk, an unusual antelope that can reach up the trees on its hind legs.

You're in for a treat when you visit Samburu National Reserve with us. Expect glorious scenery, four of the Big Five (no rhino), hyenas, giraffes, hippos and zebras. Samburu highlights include some prized northern specialities, such as Somali ostrich, gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, beisa oryx and reticulated giraffe. And bring your binoculars: almost 400 bird species have been seen within the reserve's boundaries.

Day 3: Safari to the rhino haven & home to pink Flamingos in Lake Nakuru

Embark on an early morning game drive, then head back to the lodge for breakfast and checkout. Then, start your journey to Lake Nakuru National Park, enjoying the stunning Great Rift Valley scenery, and arriving just in time for lunch. You'll explore Lake Nakuru National Park on game drives to see its populations of large mammals like rhino, buffalo, eland and rare Rothschild giraffe, as well as the park's glorious roster of birds like pelicans, fish eagles, Verreaux's eagles and Narina trogons. In the evening, you will go back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 and 5: Exploring the plains of Maasai Mara

Start your day with breakfast, then bid farewell to Lake Nakuru. The drive to Mara is an enthralling one, dotted with beautiful landscapes and scenes. The expected arrival time is noon. Have a short game drive as you head to the lodge for check-in and lunch. A short rest then we head out for the afternoon game drive.

Expect wildlife sightings that include spotting elephants, rhinos, and lions and if you're patient enough expect to see the elusive leopard. Head back to the lodge in the evening for rest, dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will head out for a full-day safari game drive. [Optional: Take a hot air balloon ride over the reserve for your morning game drive. This is a fantastic way to see the animals up close.] On this day you will get to go up to the Mara River to see the crocodiles and hippopotamus. Along other parts of the river, you will see a variety of animals coming to get a drink of water.

During the drive, your guide will introduce you to the lifestyle and behaviours of each animal you see and answer any questions you have. This park offers designated areas where you will be able to enjoy a picnic lunch right out in the open. After lunch, it is time to continue with the safari game drive. [Optional: Visit the Masai Village where you can discover the tribal culture and interact with local people. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience.]

After the drive, you will return to your accommodation for a well-earned rest before enjoying another authentic African dinner. After dinner, there will be a bonfire where you can meet other travellers and swap stories about your safari adventure. Then it is off to bed for a good night’s sleep.

Day 6: End of the Kenya Wildlife Safari

Your last day on this safari. You will start the day with an early morning before heading back to the camp for breakfast and check out. You will have an en-route game drive as you check out from Masai Mara. Expected time in Nairobi is around lunchtime. Head to a hotel for lunch or opt to have your lunch at the Carnivore.
