Accommodation

The lodge is rustic in nature and has been curated to include the distinctive hallmarks of Rwandan hospitality. All rooms have a breathtaking view of the Lake Ihema in the National Park, and wide terraces to relax after your trip.

Wood and stone have been skillfully crafted by local artisans into custom rooms and furnishings that give Akagera Rhino Lodge a uniquely Rwandan design. Each room is outfitted with premium mattresses, custom furnishings and bathrooms stocked with locally sourced toiletries.

Dining

Dine in the open-air restaurant and enjoy international cuisine and traditional African dishes. The lodge also serves coffee and fresh juice made from locally sourced beans and fruit. These are complemented by a selection of home-baked breads, fresh juices and garden-fresh fruits and vegetables.

The dining space includes a large, outdoor patio with thatched roof-shaded tables for those who wish to enjoy an open-air meal during the day or delight in a starry dinner under the night sky.

Activities

With an exciting range of community activities to immerse yourself in during your stay, you can be certain that you will have an unforgettable experience.

No matter which part of the park you visit, there is always something to see. From the Big 5 (Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino) to the smaller creatures that call Akagera home.

The park has an abundance of animals including a range of antelopes such as Topi, Eland, Roan and Impala. You can also view Zebra, Maasai Giraffe, Bush Buck and Baboon up close.

Akagera National Park is the best place in Rwanda for birding with more than 500 species calling the park home. Whilst on safari in the park, take advantage of every opportunity to spot species endemic to Rwanda and those visiting from abroad. Keep a close eye on the park's many lakes for species as varied as the Pied Kingfisher, Fish Eagle, Grey Crowned Cranes, Open Billed Stork, Cormorant, as well as the Egret. If you're especially lucky, you may even find the elusive Shoebill in the northern swamps of the park.
