Where You'll Stay

Camps that move with the migration, not just watch it

Luxury in the Serengeti isn’t only about the room, it’s about positioning. The finest camps here are seasonal or fully mobile, relocating through the year to sit closest to wherever the migration actually is: the Western Corridor when the herds cross the Grumeti River, the Northern Serengeti when they reach the Mara River, the southern plains near Ndutu during calving season. A permanent luxury lodge can’t do that. A well-run mobile camp can.

We have stayed at properties across the Serengeti’s luxury tier. Below is what genuinely distinguishes them

Lodges vs camps

Two genuinely different structures, not just price tiers

Permanent lodges, built from stone or brick, offer architectural permanence and a fixed location, usually near Seronera or another established hub. Mobile and seasonal camps, built from canvas, relocate through the year to track the migration directly, trading architectural weight for positioning that a permanent property simply cannot match

Following the migration

The Western Corridor, Northern Serengeti, and the Lobo Hills

The Western Corridor puts you closest to the Grumeti River crossings, where crocodiles wait beneath the water as the herds attempt to cross, typically June and July. The Northern Serengeti positions camps near the Mara River crossings from roughly August through October, the migration’s most photographed moment. Camps near the Lobo Hills, further northeast, offer a quieter alternative with resident wildlife and black eagles overhead year round, independent of the migration’s exact timing.

Beyond the migration

Moru Kopjes and the black rhino

Beyond the migration

Moru Kopjes and the black rhino

The Moru Kopjes, ancient granite outcrops rising from the plains in the southern Serengeti, shelter one of Tanzania’s small remaining black rhino populations, a genuine rarity worth building into an itinerary independent of migration timing.

Why Plan Through Kwezi Safaris

01

We have stayed in every lodge we recommend

George Nchau's team has visited these properties in person, not just reviewed their brochures.
02

Private guiding, never a shared vehicle

Every stay we arrange is built around your own itinerary, not a fixed group schedule.
03

We tell you which lodges to skip, too

If a property does not fit what you are after, we say so, rather than filling a list with everything available.
04

13+ years of relationships with lodge owners

That access means better rates and more current availability than a booking platform can offer.
