Overview

Embark on a Safari in Naivasha and enjoying breathtaking views of Lake Naivasha & Tour Hell's Gate National Park. Naivasha is unique in that it features an extinct volcano, a thick forest, hundreds of Umbrella Acacia trees, and is home to Mt Longonot, Hells Gate National Park and Lake Naivasha.

Lake Naivasha can be wonderfully noisy, especially in the evenings, when males hippos are fighting, marabou stork are squawking, and monkeys emit their reverberating hoots. Birdlife is prolific and the diversity makes it one of our favourite birding destinations in East Africa. But most of all, Lake Naivasha is calm. Two hours north of Nairobi, on route to Lake Nakuru and Mount Kenya, it's a place for relaxing and recharging the batteries.

Lake Naivasha is abundant in wildlife.

Hippos dominate and there are thousands in the lake, each pod with its own territory. They graze beneath the lakeside lodges, an enchanting sight while fine dining beneath the stars. Wildlife is scattered across the lakeshore and often visible from the main road, the likes of zebra, giraffe, buffalo, and gazelle all feeding without the threat of predators. Vervet and colobus monkeys are equally plentiful and we've often opened the curtains to a troop inhabiting our balcony.

Hell's Gate National Park is the real-inspiration of Lion King.

When visitors to Hell’s Gate National Park reach the sweeping cliffs carved by a prehistoric lake that gives the park its name, they’ll discover that Pride Rock’s real-life inspiration is no less majestic. The fact that you won’t actually see Simba (which means lion in Swahili) is the park’s secret advantage: the lack of predators means you can take in savannas and come face to face with giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and warthogs on your own two feet—or better yet, on bicycle wheels. Hell’s Gate is one of the only places in East Africa where you can hike the totality of a park. You can even go on a biking safari—a far cry from peeping animals through a safari vehicle’s roof.
